Over time, most brass, copper and silver metal products will slowly tarnish. This means that they will deepen and darken in colour, and will not look like the shiny piece that you originally purchased. 

Here are our tips for keeping them looking new:

• Rub a lemon slice over your piece, rinse with water and dry with a soft cloth.
• One of the worst things you can do to metal jewelry is to wear it near or in water. This applies while showering, going to the pool, and going to the beach.
• When not being worn, store your jewelry in a clean and dry place. 

A combination of contemporary and African inspired jewelry styles, 84Gem offers very unique pieces reminiscent to jewelry found in other countries and cultures. Inspired by her personal travels, the designs consists of an organic mixture of natural gemstones, beads and metals. All pieces are handmade in Brooklyn and material is sourced from India, Istanbul and some parts of Africa.

Each piece is created to evoke a sense of power, strength and confidence to the fashion forward wearer.

The designer, Kimone Young, was born in Jamaica and raised in Brooklyn, New York.

Launched in 2011, 84Gem has since been worn by the likes of model Eva Marcille, The Voice's Season 5 winner, Tessanne Chin,  and Miss Universe 2010 1st Runner-Up, Yendi Phillipps.
