Our hearts are heavy as we witness the impact of Hurricane Melissa on our island and our people.
Over the last two weeks, we’ve watched as communities across Jamaica face unimaginable loss – homes washed away, livelihoods interrupted, families starting over with little more than hope. The road to recovery will be long, winding, and full of lessons.
But if there’s one thing this storm could never shake, it’s our spirit.

Small, but mighty.
Even in the darkest moments, our Jamaican heart beats with joy. We are a people who find light in hardship, laughter in melody, and strength in community. Across parishes, neighbors have become lifelines, sharing food, clearing debris, checking on one another. From every corner of the island and every diaspora abroad, help has come pouring in.
It’s a reminder that our small island carries a great impact, and that the rhythm of Jamaica echoes far beyond its shores.
And so, though we are back to work, we are not yet back to normal.
At Locale, we’ve always believed in the power of local – in nurturing our designers, artisans, and makers; in celebrating what’s homegrown and handcrafted. But now, that belief feels even more urgent. Supporting local means helping our people rebuild. It means giving small businesses the strength to stand tall again.

Every mikkle mek a muckle. Every little bit counts.
The recovery efforts have shown how much can grow from even the smallest act of care; water drives, food deliveries, and community kitchens – every gesture has mattered. And that same spirit of generosity has inspired us to create Locale for Life – our ongoing outreach initiative dedicated to thoughtful, intentional acts of care.
As a woman-owned, community-driven space, our approach to business has always been rooted in empathy. We know the strength it takes to nurture, to rebuild, to lead with compassion. Supporting other women, in life and in business, is not just a mission; it’s the heartbeat of who we are.
Following Pink[y] Promise, we’ve extended our care through The Second Bloom – a relief effort focused on providing care kits for women and children affected by Hurricane Melissa. Each package blends the practical with the personal, everyday essentials paired with tokens of comfort and beauty, because we believe care should feel like dignity.
Additionally, starting November 13th to December 31st, 25% of proceeds from our BBC x RC Locale, Land We Love, and Jamaica Nice shirts will go toward Food for the Poor Jamaica; supporting the delivery of essentials to families rebuilding their lives. It’s one simple way to turn shopping local into giving local – every purchase helping someone take one step closer to recovery.

Different roots, shared strength.
Hurricane Melissa has really reminded us of our deep interconnectedness – yaad and abroad, family and friends, strangers and neighbors. We are all a part of the same story, and rebuilding requires every one of us.
In that same spirit of unity and renewal, we’re reshaping MoDA into a pop-up series that celebrates connection through creativity.
Beginning November 21–22 and continuing November 28–29, December 5–6, and December 12–13, each event will spotlight Caribbean designers and international artists, offering spaces to gather, give back, and rediscover joy.
These moments are about more than fashion. They are about celebrating craftsmanship, and reminding ourselves of what it means to grow together.
Because rebuilding isn’t only about walls and roads. It’s about people. It’s about spirit. It’s about love.
So as we move forward, let’s carry the lessons of this season – the compassion, the courage, the care. Let’s keep showing up for each other, again and again, in small ways and big ways.
Jamaica will rise – as she always does – not because she is unshaken, but because she is unbreakable.
Out of many, one people – one heart, one home, one love.
