Make “Jamaica Nice” Again: Music, Mission & Moving Forward

There’s a certain feeling that comes with being Jamaican: a rhythm, a pride, a shared heartbeat that reminds us of who we are, no matter what we’re facing. It’s a way of life rooted in rhythm, resilience, and the unshakeable belief that even in the hardest moments, our island can still find its way back to joy.

After Hurricane Melissa, that belief was definitely tested. Communities were uprooted, homes lost, and lives changed in ways words can barely express. And yet, amid the devastation, music kept showing up – as comfort, as community, as connection. Because here, music is never just sound. It is healing. It is identity. It is purpose.

That is exactly what Jamaica Nice was built on.

The Heart Behind Jamaica Nice

Founded on pure love for Jamaican culture, Jamaica Nice began as a celebration of the people, places, and creative energy that make this island truly special. But more than that, the brand has always stood for upliftment, using music and culture to bring people together, spark pride, and support creative communities.

From their early days partnering with local musicians, to their ongoing relationship with the Alpha School of Music, Jamaica Nice has always understood that collaboration fuels transformation. Their work with Alpha has touched lives across the island, helping to create opportunities for young musicians who use music as an expression, as well as a tool for growth, healing, and belonging.

And after Hurricane Melissa, that mission matters now more than ever.

Restoring music education is about far more than replacing instruments; it's about restoring hope. Music creates spaces where community bonds are rebuilt and renewed. Through performance, young people regain confidence. Through learning, they find purpose. Through shared moments of harmony, entire communities remember what it feels like to breathe again.

How Jamaica Nice Is Showing Up

This month at Locale, 25% of proceeds from all Jamaica Nice, BBC x RC and Land We Love tees will go directly to Food For The Poor JA in support of Hurricane Melissa relief efforts. It’s our way of standing with a brand that has always stood with Jamaica – not just in message, but in meaningful action.

And choosing to spotlight Jamaica Nice right now is intentional. At Locale, our mission has always been to uplift Jamaican creatives, makers, and the stories that shape our island. Jamaica Nice embodies that spirit; a brand rooted in collaboration, community, and an unwavering love for the culture that made it. Supporting them means supporting home.

And in true Jamaica Nice fashion, the music continues. The Alpha School of Music will be hosting two upcoming community events that keep the rhythm alive:

Jamaica Nice x Locale: A Partnership Rooted in Purpose

Our collaboration with Jamaica Nice has always been about more than clothes – it’s about carrying Jamaican culture forward with pride, integrity, and heart. Their tees remind us of who we are: bold, prideful, creative, and deeply connected.

As we continue the Locale For Life initiative, we’re honoured to work alongside brands like Jamaica Nice who don’t just say Jamaica nice – they prove it.

Carrying the Vibes into MoDA

And speaking of creativity…The energy continues this weekend as we launch our MoDA Pop-Up Series – four weekends of celebrating Caribbean and international design.

We’re starting strong with:

  • Korto Momolu – bold silhouettes, stunning draping, and statement pieces that feel powerful and unforgettable.

  • Kris Jackson – rich Caribbean storytelling stitched into every detail, bringing a modern, elevated energy to island style.

  • Kimmystic.Lo (Kimon Baptiste) – effortless, colourful, wearable art with the vibrant spirit of the region woven into every seam.

  • PLUS, artwork by Kristen Woolery – whose pieces, inspired by memory, rhythm, and the colours of the Caribbean, will be on display in-store throughout MoDA.

This season, we’re celebrating designers and creatives who remind us why supporting local matters – especially now. Their work brings joy, offers escape, and reflects the beauty and resilience of the Caribbean spirit.

Because Making Jamaica Nice Again Isn’t Just a slogan, It’s a Movement

And it starts with community. With design. With music. With showing up for each other.

Join us in-store this weekend. Support the creatives who keep our culture alive. Wear your Jamaica Nice tee proudly knowing it gives back. And stay tuned as we share more stories, more makers, and more magic throughout the MoDA Series.

Together, we can make Jamaica nice – again, and always.
